6 of the Most Commonly Asked FAQs About Ghostwriting: Does Ghostwriting Actually Pay Well?

Does ghostwriting actually pay well?

This is by far the most frequently asked question about ghostwriting. I meet someone every other day who asks me about how well ghostwriting pays.

What's interesting is the fact that the majority of these aren't writers or people thinking of making ghostwriting their career.

These are just those nosy people who want to judge your 'financial status' by finding out how much you make as a ghostwriter.

That's why I will answer this question now, right here, right now.

Question 5

Does ghostwriting actually pay well?

Answer

Yes, it does.

I actually answered the same question on this blog back in 2013. You may read it here.

As mentioned in the article above, the rates of ghostwriters vary a lot. They depend on:

  1. A ghostwriter's experience
  2. The quality of work he/she offers
  3. The quantity of work demanded by the client
Some ghostwriters charge on an hourly basis. Others charge on a per word basis.

Either is fine. I prefer charging by word. The rate naturally goes up if the project is research intensive.

You might have guessed already that the article above is a bit obsolete and ghostwriting pays even better now.

A reputed ghostwriter may charge you anywhere between $0.5-2 per word and may quote you in five figures to get your full length novel written.

I talk about how well ghostwriting pays in Hope Clark's 'Funds for Writers'.

Go through it and learn how to charge the top buck for your ghostwriting projects.

Happy ghostwriting!

  1. Hello! Thanks so much for your candid thoughts on ghostwriting! They are helpful for me as I begin to apply for some ghostwriting freelance work. I have a question: One company is interested in my writing and is offering a trial rate of $1.00 per one hundred words, a very low rate as I understand from your blog; I wonder if this is just a beginning rate for someone who is just starting out, or if its highway robbery... Thanks for any thoughts on this!

  2. Hi Peter,

The rate you are being offered is surely very low but if you think it is a good opportunity to start off with, go for it. However, also bear in mind that if you do not set your first brick up properly, your structure won't survive. Perhaps, try negotiating for better rates.

Good luck with your ghostwriting ventures!

8 Reasons Why You Should Become a Ghostwriter

Despite having published under my own name, I prefer being a ghostwriter. While ghostwriting is not everyone's cup of tea, it just seems to work perfectly for me. The reasons?  1 . Ghostwriting Pays Well Ghostwriting is a lucrative niche . One of the best things about ghostwriting is that you get paid a handsome amount for it. And you get paid upfront. You don't have to wait to write, publish and then market your book to make any money out of it.    At Ghostwriters' World, I offer other writing services such as copywriting but ghostwriting undoubtedly pays the best. You just have to find the right clients- the ones who will pay you well. 2. You Have to do Less Homework Often your clients will have brilliant ideas and stories that they would want you to work on. This means you would not have to start from scratch. You don't have to come up with your own ideas and voice. You would have an outline or plot to begin with so you'll have to do less homewo...

Making Ghostwriting Your Career

Enough information about blogs, websites, search engines, SEO and all those trending topics talking about how you can establish your online presence! Let's get back to the topic of 'ghostwriting', something this blog is originally about. Now, before I go any further, I just want to make sure you know what ghostwriting is. It may sound funny but many people still think it's writing about ghosts, witches and those scary things.  While ghostwriting literally means the same, the main idea behind ghostwriting is that you write on someone else's behalf. So basically, if you know a well-known author out there, he probably wasn't the mastermind behind his books. It was a ghostwriter! Does that sound a bit insane or may be unfair to you? You write something and someone else gets the credit for it....Well to some extent it is, but I still believe  establishing  your career as a ghostwriter  is a wonderful idea. Or at least  that's  w...

All This Time

Sincere apologies to all my lovelies out there for not posting anything during the last few years. I have had so many ideas for writing new blogs for you all but unfortunately they have stayed right in my head. Life has always gotten in the way, and I have always been too busy around my freelance work, the two beautiful children that I have had in these years and the usual chores around the house, which I bet you already know a lot about. I have this resolution that starting next week, I will return to posting a blog or two, every week, as before. It will, hopefully, be lots more fun and not just be limited to writing alone. It will include new ideas, experiences and much more. Hope you all are excited about it as much as I am looking forward to let those ideas off my head. Thanks for reading and I look forward resume next week.
