Small Jumps Today....Big Leaps Tomorrow!

All of a sudden now, everyone wants to eat healthy, be fit and look like celebrities. We start off each year with a resolution to stay fit and healthy, join gyms and buy ourselves all the right fitness gear to get us into the the mode of healthy living. While we all start off well, most of us give up too soon. This is because, as always, life gets in the way- work, stress, family, busy lifestyle, lack of motivation and such other factors forbid you from achieving your 'healthy-living' goals. A lot of us may have tried shortcuts and fad diets. If you have, you know that they simply do not work. In fact, they have a negative impact on our bodies. Our bodies can't adapt to drastic changes. Simple changes in life, though, could lead to big differences.  By that I mean that we need to take little steps at a time, as even the littlest of change in our routine or lifestyle can be daunting to us and our bodies. What are those simple changes? How can we incorporate those changes ...

Living Our Lives.....for Others

"Pait mein khaya kisi nay nahin deykha, Tann pay pehna, sab nay deykha." Ever heard of this saying? This famous Urdu proverb literally translates as: "Nobody sees what you eat, but everyone sees what you wear" So we can eat any junk we like but still have to remain well-dressed so we can create a good impression on others. True, isn't it? Don't you think we are living our lives today for others? No matter what we want, we have to stop and rethink before taking a decision. How many times have you personally said to yourself while picking up clothes from your wardrobe to wear: "This looks nice but what will my friends or neighbours think of me if I wear this slim-fitted jeans when I go out?" Once? Twice? Or does it happen every now and then? You know you can completely flatter the look, but you just can't wear what you like. Likewise, have you noticed how we are so tempted to the buy most expensive of all brands of clothing and...

Happiness-It's Different for Everyone

Happiness: what a strange feeling it is! We feel joyful, satisfied, contended and more. It's hard to explain the feeling. It is a pleasant feeling though. We all feel happy about something, some days, sometimes. However, it is not necessary what makes us happy now will still make us happy 10 years later or what makes us jump with excitement also excites others as much too. Take for example the fact that I was over the moon to see, feel and experience snow for the first time in my life back in 2009. Today, I still like watching through my window when it is snowing, but I do not feel as happy about experiencing it as I did 9 years ago. Thoughts about driving on those slippery and icy roads make me cringe, about catching a cold and still having to fulfill my responsibilities as a mother and homemaker drive me crazy. Likewise, you may feel that 'deep satisfaction' when you get to eat something you really enjoy eating, but for someone out there the mere thought of b...

Housewives Vs Working Women: Who is Better?

As promised last week, I am back into the blogging business. When I use the term 'business', I do not mean this is what I do professionally to make money out it, although that would be great too. Won't it? ;) My blog posts are meant for utilizing my sheer love for writing, to express my thoughts, experiences and opinions and then share them with you, and even better to help you out in some way, if possible. The Hottest Debate of the Millennium During the last few years I have had a lot of debates with my friends (many of whom are working women) about whether being a working woman is any better than being a stay-at-home mum. It is no surprise that many of those working women still think that being a housewife means sitting at home and chill-axing while being a working woman means working your arse off when you are at work and then coming back home to looking after the house and family. There is one thing that I have noticed that both housewives and working women...

All This Time

Sincere apologies to all my lovelies out there for not posting anything during the last few years. I have had so many ideas for writing new blogs for you all but unfortunately they have stayed right in my head. Life has always gotten in the way, and I have always been too busy around my freelance work, the two beautiful children that I have had in these years and the usual chores around the house, which I bet you already know a lot about. I have this resolution that starting next week, I will return to posting a blog or two, every week, as before. It will, hopefully, be lots more fun and not just be limited to writing alone. It will include new ideas, experiences and much more. Hope you all are excited about it as much as I am looking forward to let those ideas off my head. Thanks for reading and I look forward resume next week.

Traditional Learning: Today

Last time I talked about traditional learning and promised will continue to discuss traditional learning in today's world in my next blog. So here it goes: Today, traditional thinking doesn't work anymore. Basically it is “one size fits all”. Students with special abilities, needs, or learning styles had to make their own accommodations within the existing educational structure. Traditional teaching means imparting a prescribed bunch of facts that many students may not ever use. In traditional learning, there is little, if any, thought given to the link between school and work. It was anticipated that companies would supply the specific training their new hires required beyond their formal, broad-based education. In today’s global economy, what students need to be ready for the world of work is vastly different.  Technology has made rapid and drastic demands on modern employees. Today’s work environment is full of computers, smart phones, tablets, Google, Facebook, and I...

Traditional Learning: What Lessons Do We Learn from it?

Globalization has produced a new of level of interdependence among us. The economy and multinational supply chains do not abide by political boundaries. A computer ordered in Brazil is designed in California and assembled in several other countries. Economic integration was the first strong evidence of a new era. ~Eduardo Paes W hat lessons did we learn from 'Traditional Learning'? Traditional education , also known as “ back-to-basics” ,“ conventional learning” and “ customary education” focuses on those long-established values and curricula of traditional society. Many parents and conservative members of the community applaud the maintenance of specific standards, test-based results, and a traditional approach to instruction. It’s the type of education they received and, in their minds, they turned out just fine. Traditional education emphasized such qualities as respect, punctuality, obedience, and following the examples presented. Traditionalists believe that if...
