Ghostwriting – Convenience or a Lie?

While people are increasingly relying on ghostwriters to write books, web content, articles, stories or blogs on their behalf, there are still some people who do not appreciate the idea. Of course, the ghostwriter never seems to get the credit for his/her work and earns only a fraction of what the owner of the book or article earns. Doesn't sound fair? Or does it? Here's my honest opinion on it.

Why do People Hire Ghostwriters?
People hire ghostwriters for the sake of convenience. They may want something written, for example a novel, a memoir, a blog, an article or even engaging content for their website or descriptions of the products they wish to sell. They might have brilliant ideas to write a book that they are thinking about selling and making some money out of. They might just need to fill up their blog with quality content to keep their readers engaged and to increase traffic. So why do they need you? Despite all that, they may be lacking the time and necessary skills (to get the idea across using the right words). This justifies their need to use a ghostwriter.

Are Ghostwriters Worth Hiring?

Absolutely! Professional ghostwriters work efficiently and provide you with exactly what you need, saving you some precious time. Using them for your writing tasks is a convenient way to get your book or blogs written in today's busy lifestyle. While they get their money, you get your work done. It is like any other work. You outsource it to someone and pay them for their time and hard work. You save your time while getting your job done to professional standards. I don't see what's so bad or unethical about it.

Gone are the days when people used to have many doubts related to this field. Those companies that hire out these services are happy as their content keeps on attracting more traffic and generates more revenue for them over time. Words written down are what people read and they tend to get the idea across. That's the only suitable way you can communicate with your clients in this virtual world where everything is online. You can't talk to everybody about your products or services over the phone or even using Skype. Or can you? I don't think so!

A boring and dull website that lacks healthy content will not make much of a difference. Will it? However, a freelance writer or ghostwriter will change the scenario completely with more suitable, vibrant and enticing content that is readable for the target audience.

How to Look Out for the Best Ghostwriter?

When looking out for a ghostwriter to write for you, look out for those who have years of experience in writing, have a good reputation, rating and communicate to you professionally. Newbies may have more potential, fresh perspective and different frame of ideas, as well. You can be picky of course as the content they write for you will represent you, your company, your products or services in some manner or the other. Establish good communication with your writers, encourage freedom of expression and guide them in the right direction and hopefully you'll never face trouble in utilizing their services.

Having answered the top two most frequently asked questions about ghostwriting, it is now time for the third one. Question #3: What should I include in my contract before I start ghostwriting my client's book? Answer: To state the obvious, a written and signed contract is one of the most important elements a ghostwriter needs before he or she undertakes a ghostwriting job. A contract is a mutual agreement between you, as the ghostwriter and the client you are ghostwriting for. Because a ghostwriting job can take several weeks and even months to complete, what you include in this contract should be all carefully worded. So, what should you include in the contact? From my personal experience as a ghostwriter, I believe any terms that you and the client have mutually discussed and agreed on should be penned down in your contract. Nothing, and I mean absolutely NOTHING should remain a part of your verbal communication. It all has to be in black and white and
